Puppy Management

Don’t remember how to housebreak a new puppy? Do you already have bite marks on your arms from those sharp puppy teeth? Bringing a new puppy home is an exciting time. People often compare it to the joys of bringing home a new baby. It can also be a stressful time for people who have never owned a dog before, or who have forgotten how much attention a puppy really needs. People often wonder how early they can start training their puppy. Training can, and should, begin as soon as you bring your new puppy home. The longer you wait to train your puppy, the harder it is to get rid of bad behaviors. Starting early with basic commands and management techniques will help you and your puppy down the right path for a long, happy life together.

Out N’ About Dog Training offers a variety of options to assist with adjusting to your new puppy:

Private Consultation

It is recommended that you schedule a private consultation shortly after you bring your new puppy home. During the consultation, your immediate concerns can be addressed and suggestions can be made to make your home environment safe for your puppy. Housebreaking can be a short and simple process if you set your puppy up for success as soon as you bring them home. However, it requires consistency and attention to your puppies’ behavior. Crate training greatly enhances the process. During a consultation, you will receive specific instruction on how to successfully housebreak your puppy, with consideration given to your schedule.

Puppy Pre-School

If your puppy is between the ages of 8-16 weeks of age, you can attend a 6 week Puppy Pre-School group class. This class uses positive training techniques and teaches basic obedience commands. Most importantly, this class offers off-leash puppy play and socialization time. Class size is limited to seven puppies, so you are sure to get the attention that you need. Puppies must have at least two rounds of vaccinations, including bordetella, prior to starting the class. Proof of vaccinations is required at orientation. Classes will be held at Camp Bow Wow, a premier doggy day care and boarding facility.

Comments from graduates of the Puppy Pre-School:

I liked the idea of clicker training because it really helped the training get started. The class helped Tank improve every week and I’ve noticed he is far more advanced than other puppies his age. The instructor worked very well with the pups! We had fun and Tank has improved greatly, than you!

-Priscilla and Tank

What was most beneficial about the class was socializing with other puppies. The class helped with distractions, meeting new friends and learning basic training skills. The instructor knew what she was talking about, was very organized, friendly and helpful.

(My dog) listens better and walks better. I loved that the instructor knows what she is talking about and knows information about different breeds. I sure would recommend this class to a friend.

-Andrea and Wonder Mutt

The homework assignments were helpful because they provided detailed information about training procedures. Puppy play time was very helpful because (my dog) doesn’t have lots of dogs nearby. I already recommended the class to a friend. The instructor is very approachable.

-Linda and Apple

I liked that the instructor used positive reinforcement and no punishing. The class was very helpful.

Thanks so much! I feel like I came in with an unruly puppy and came away with a sweet responsive “best friend!” Yes, yes! The instructor was very personable, not judgmental and made me feel like I could do this! She had an excellent disposition and good control.

-Chris, Don and Sarge

I feel prepared and knowledgeable as a dog owner and trainer. My dog has a longer attention span. She looks for direction and guidance from me – “what’s next Ma?” I really enjoyed coming to class and thought it was great. Julie is in complete control and so professional and friendly. She really impressed me from the start!

- Jenn and Tiki

My dog is much more calm and pays attention to commands more. The homework assignments gave me bonding time with my dog and were very informational. Thank you very much for all the great information! We’re going to miss you.

-Jessica and Luna
